Found in ductwork, this movable plate opens and closes to control airflow. When dampers are open, they allow airflow unimpeded, and when closed, they restrict airflow. They can also remain partially open. Dampers are a key component in a zoned HVAC system and regulate airflow to certain rooms.
American Standard’s exclusive motorized modulating dampers open and close inside your ductwork in partial increments, allowing you to fine-tune zoned areas for maximum comfort. Your American Standard dealer can install dampers within your new or existing ductwork to redirect conditioned air where it’s needed, providing precise control of temperature and humidity levels.
American Standard zoning systems help deliver the proper airflow to meet the temperatures you’ve set for each zone or room—for example, you can set one zone at 68 degrees, while you set another zone at 72 degrees. Directing air on a zone-by-zone basis provides the ultimate in customized comfort, unlike conventional systems that can only heat or cool the entire house to one temperature.
A zoning system may have a central system controller as well as a smart thermostat and zone sensors that send temperature and humidity data to the thermostat.

Central air conditioning utilizes a series of ducts to remove heat and humidity from your home, place it outside, and re-distribute it throughout all rooms to ultimately decrease the indoor temperature.
HVAC ductwork is a system of metal or synthetic channels or pipes that transport heated or cooled air throughout your home. In a forced air system, the warm or cool air is blown into the AC ductwork/furnace ductwork at the location of the furnace or air handler blower fan.
