Located in the outdoor unit, sometimes called the condenser unit, the condenser coil dissipates heat from the refrigerant, changing the refrigerant from vapor to liquid.
In American Standard units, the trademarked all-aluminum design is called Spine Fin™ Coils. The novel design enhances airflow and heat transfer while resisting corrosion and leaks. These exclusive all-aluminum coils have proven far more reliable than traditional coils with copper and aluminum. Plus, aqueous glue releases fewer VOCs.
Because the condenser coil has such a big job, if there are problems, it is one of the more expensive parts to replace. AC condenser coil replacement cost for a home AC unit can range from $850–$2,700. If you have an older unit and the condenser coil goes bad, you may want to consider replacing the air conditioner or heat pump.
