Located in the outdoor condenser unit, the outdoor or condenser coil releases heat that the refrigerant absorbs inside at the indoor coil/evaporator coil. As the heat dissipates, the refrigerant changes from vapor to liquid.
The indoor and outdoor coils work together in an AC condenser unit to cool your home. If you have a heat pump, it reverses the refrigerant cycle in the cooler months to heat your home.
In American Standard HVAC condenser units, the outdoor coil is called Spine Fin™. Our Spine Fin™ Coils have a novel design that enhances airflow and heat transfer while resisting corrosion and leaks. These exclusive all-aluminum coils have proven far more reliable than traditional coils with copper and aluminum.

Also known as the evaporator coil, the indoor coil provides a place for heat to be absorbed and works with the outdoor coil to complete the heat exchange cycle.
The outdoor unit of an HVAC system is the part of the system containing the compressor, condenser, and fan.
The condenser coil is the outdoor coil found in your cooling system. It works together with the evaporator coil to complete the heat exchange cycle by providing a means for heat to be released.
