Multi-split ductless systems, like mini-splits, have one outdoor unit. The difference is that multi-split systems can have up to eight indoor units, all connected to one outdoor unit. This makes multi-split ductless systems a viable option for whole-home heating and cooling without the presence of ductwork.
Mini-split heating and cooling with a ductless mini-split multi-zone system can be a highly energy-efficient solution for both new construction and for comfortably heating and cooling an older home that doesn’t have ductwork. A zone can be a single room or possibly two rooms in an open-concept home where you locate the indoor unit in a central location. Work with an HVAC professional with experience in designing and installing multi-zone ductless heating and cooling systems for the best result.
