News Florida Family is Breathing Easy February 29, 2008
Winning Family of American Standard Heating & Air Conditioning “My Comfy Home Coloring Contest” Awarded Visit From Lifestyle Expert Hannah Keeley
The Hernandez family of Dade City, Fla. is breathing a lot easier thanks to American Standard Heating & Air Conditioning’s My Comfy Home coloring contest.
In their winning entry, 12-year-old Grace and eight-year-old Clare Hernandez described the 10-person family’s struggle with seasonal allergies and an unreliable, 25-year-old air conditioning unit. After collecting the most online votes, the family won a $15,000 home comfort makeover, including an in-home consultation with HannahKeeley.com founder and lifestyle expert Hannah Keeley, among other prizes.
During her recent visit to the Hernandez’s home, Hannah helped the family prepare for the coming spring allergy season, and shared a variety of tips and solutions to help the family maintain a cleaner and more comfortable home, including:
  • Breathe clean air – if the air is dirty, then your entire home could be unhealthy. Start with the basics and make sure that the air in your home is clean and healthy by installing an effective whole-home air cleaner.
  • Keep the dirt where it belongs – install large door mats at every entrance of your home. For best results, put one inside and another one outside.
  • Opt for nontoxic cleaners – a big contributor to indoor air pollution is all of the chemicals that are used in fragrances, cleaners and other housekeeping helpers.
  • Dry it up – moisture is a breeding ground for mold and mildew. Use dehumidifiers or exhaust fans often, especially in bathrooms, and make sure that you clean your bathrooms regularly.
“As a mother of a large family that includes a few allergy sufferers, I can relate firsthand to the Hernandez’s desire to make their home cleaner, healthier and more comfortable,” said Hannah Keeley. “With just a few simple solutions, the Hernandez family will not only increase their home’s indoor comfort level, but also decrease energy costs.”
In addition to the consultation with Hannah, the Hernandez family also won a new HVAC system including an AccuClean whole-home system, which was installed by independent dealer Chris’ A/C with support from Gulf Refrigeration in Tampa, Fla.
The My Comfy Home coloring contest was designed to help families make their homes cleaner and more comfortable without all the trouble and time. Part of the solution is the American Standard Heating & Air Conditioning AccuClean whole-home air filtration system, which removes up to 99.98 percent of the dirt, dust, pet dander and pollen from the filtered air inside a home. In addition, a Harvard-led research study reveals that American Standard AccuClean removes more than 99 percent of the common flu, or influenza A virus, from a home’s filtered air.
